Saturday started off with a trip to Camden Market for Jaden, Kennedy, and I. The most famous thing I had heard of was the Bang Bang Chicken. The guy selling it was hilarious! He just kept begging everyone to try a sample of it. It completely lived up to the hype! It was probably one of my favorite things I have eaten since I've been here (excluding all ice cream and desserts :) ).
To make things even better, right next to the Bang Bang Chicken was a BRAZILIAN stand! When I first saw it, I was hoping for my favorite Brazilian specialty, an avocado milkshake! They didn't have those, but they had the next best thing - brigadeiros! Imagine a ball of chocolate and sweetened condensed milk covered in chocolate sprinkles and you've got it. They were almost as good as the real thing! I was so incredibly happy in that moment. :)
Next, Jaden and I went to Lillywhite's, a HUGE sporting goods store in Piccadilly Circus. It had 6 floors! The crazy story was that when we came out of the tube station we passed Hailey and Brad of "Two Years!" It was so crazy and we didn't even realize it was them until after we had passed them, but it was them!
Our last stop of the afternoon was the DISNEY STORE. I had looked it up the night before and it is the largest Disney store in Europe and it happens to be just down the street from us! We had way too much fun taking pictures with the characters around the store. Generally the merchandise was the same, just spread out over two floors and a wall dedicated to the London-themed items. I bought a bag I've seen around here and I love it!
That night, we went out to dinner to celebrate! I've been missing pancakes like crazy, so we went to My Old Dutch Pancake House. Our professor's daughters recommended it to us and we loved it! They weren't the fluffy pancakes I was craving, but they were HUGE crepes! I got a Hawaiian one with ham and pineapple and Lauren got the Amsterdammer with bacon, apples, and syrup and we split them. Being the great friends they are, they all sang Happy Birthday to me as well. :)
Yes, that is a crepe, not a pizza!
After dinner, we made a stop for our favorite Ben's Cookies and since it's right across the street, we had to go back to the Disney Store again!
Unfortunately, we had a huge midterm to study for, so the Saturday partying ended there for the night.
Sunday was such a great day! I woke up to a special birthday letter and choruses of "Happy Birthday!" just about anytime I walked through the centre. It was so great! At church, I told two of my primary girls that it was my birthday and they guessed my age. The first guess was 36, haha!
The 27th with my new birthday skirt!
After church, the internet must have known it was my birthday because it decided to work well enough to have a smooth video skype call with my family! At dinner, the whole group sang to me again and my professors gave me a candy bar too. :)
That night we had a fireside by a man who lived through the Blitz on London in WWII. He was only 4 years old, so he was sent away to Wales. He had such amazing stories and pictures to show and it was even more amazing since some of these sights are things I see everyday. He had one picture of people using the tube stations as a bomb shelter. I love WWII history, so his stories were so fascinating to me!
The rest of the night was taken up by studying and cramming for our history midterm. There was so much to learn that it just got frustrating for me, especially since it was my birthday. However, it was still a GREAT birthday!
